12/21/2023 0 Comments Spark plugs and wires cost![]() ![]() I reccomend suppressor type wires as certain types/makes can 'cross talk' which while not fatal, can cause odd missfires, and in the case of aftermarket ECU setups like SDS and such, outright confuse the ECU. If there's any doubt at all about angle, ask to see an example, and perhaps try a test fit if they'll allow.ĮG: Beck~Arnley stock fit package has 90 degree bent boot covers which lay low against the head and #1 needs to point in a different direction than #'s 2, 3 and 4, but fit better than the 135 degree which would protrude above the plane of the top of the cam cover.ĭiameter~wise you're looking for 7mm, though an 8mm wire can be jammed into the stock cam cover loom, and a 6.5 will certainly fit, but is a little 'loose' in the loom. ![]() 90 + 45 = 135) being better suited to us with a few exceptions. Use caution when buying build your own kits: plug boots come in 90, 135 and 180 (AKA 'straight') angles with 135 (which is actually a 45 degree bend to the rest of the world. If you want pre-built, Beck~Arnley has a set specific to the spider that is available with straight or 90 degree turn metal covered boots and a long coil wire for right around $60~$65. Nab a V-8 kit, build your own set to length + a coil wire, and have a spare set of 4 wires to do again later all for less than a Bosch set for 4 cylinder would cost. I am in the same boat as you except that I have already been pricing wire sets.Īccel, MSD, Magnacore, and Taylor wires are all available with the common 3 angles of boots and can be had in pretty colors too (well, I think Accel is only available in Accel yellow, but still, the others are pretty much 'rainbow selection'). My 1989 still has it's original wire set (except for the coil wire - I did change that). Besides, if your wires are 32 years old and you replace them at the same time as a new set of plugs, you may find an improvement in the condition of the plugs a year later. Normal single electrode plugs only cost $3 - 4.00 each. The condition of suppression spark-plug wires can be checked with a simple. If they are not paladium (sic) or multiple electrode plugs (spelled expensive) then I would replace them. But jumping the gun inevitably will cost you more time and money in the long run. ![]() The plugs having carbon on them seems about normal to me. The cost of replacing spark plugs depends on several things, including how many spark plugs there are. A set of correct Bosch wires costs about $90 - 118.00, quite expensive it seems to me for a 4 cylinder plug wire set. If you find a correct set at a reasonable price, be sure to post it as a lot of us would like to find the same. You just cannot make the straight boot sets fit onto your overlaid center plugs. Just make sure you get a set with the correct plug boots regardless of the cost. It seems that wire sets with this configuration are unreasonably expensive. Due to the FI air feed hose and hard air tube, the top of at least the middle 2 plugs need wires which have a 90 degree boot. There are less expensive plug wire sets, but many of them have plug boots that come straight down on the plug. ![]()
